We are based in the heart of the lively port of Appledore – a traditional North Devon fishing village with a thriving artistic community. There are many studios and craft shops dotted amongst the lanes and each year the village hosts the prestigious Appledore Visual Arts Festival.

Members of The Appledore Crafts Company produce a wide range of work including metal sculpture, studio pottery, lino-cut prints, glass, ceramics, textiles, hand-made books, photography, furniture and jewellery. In addition to the regular display of contemporary craft, The Appledore Crafts Company holds occasional exhibitions.

About Appledore

Appledore is a picturesque fishing port at the mouth of the river Torridge in North Devon. The old village is a maze of narrow lanes running down to a long quay that follows the estuary towards the open sea. Appledore also sits within the UNESCO North Devon Biosphere Reserve, a suberb natural environment which stretches from Dartmoor and Exmoor to Lundy Island.

Over the years many artists and craftspeople have settled in Appledore and the village has become a hub of artistic activity. In addition to the numerous studios and galleries, there are a wide variety of events throughout the year. You can find out more about these here.

Every September the village hosts the Appledore Book Festival inviting well-known writers, politicians and broadcasters to give talks and presentations. The Festival always attracts a wonderful line-up of world-class writers and speakers, from talks to workshops and ‘in conversation with’ sessions, there is plenty of choice. Our gallery promotes this event with a special window display.

Unlike some other coastal villages, Appledore has remained unspoiled and maintains its strong seafaring tradition. It is home to the North Devon Maritime Museum, the famous Appledore shipyard and an RNLI Lifeboat Station. And local fishermen still moor alongside the quay to sell their daily catch straight off the boat.
